| Superintendent's Message |
We serve a primarily rural, agricultural region of Ohio; and as I watch the crops begin to come up this spring, it reminds me of the natural cycle of sowing seeds and reaping benefits. That’s also what spring brings to our students at Ohio Hi-Point! We’re so excited to see the many ways our students reap the benefits of the “seeds” of hard work and commitment they’ve sown throughout their time in our programs. This issue of Hi-Lites features several stories on our students’ successes:
- Winners in competitive skills events which have taken many of our students to the state and even national levels
- Scholarship winners who will be able to continue their education
- Recognition of top academic achievers and the educators they’ve chose as having the biggest impact on their success
And at Ohio Hi-Point, our “growing season” doesn’t recess for the summer—our Adult Education programs will continue through the summer, offering workforce training opportunities to meet the demanding schedules of busy adults. I hope you’ll share our sense of excitement as you read about all these happenings at your career center—Ohio Hi-Point Career Center! |

In pursuit of a life well-lived
|
Anabel Calderon is like many students enrolled in Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s Nancy J. Knight School of Nursing pursuing their dream of becoming a nurse. But for Calderon, the pursuit of her dream is riddled with challenges not faced by many at the age of 20.
“Sometimes I feel overwhelmed. Although I have never given birth, I have all the daily responsibilities of a single parent,” offered Calderon.
Calderon currently has custody of her three younger brothers since her parents had to return to Mexico. The challenge of returning to school, working and assuming the role of parent have certainly made the life of someone just entering her twenties different than most. Read More>>> |
| Adult Education summer offerings |
Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s Adult and Continuing Education Division has had a successful and extremely busy year helping create career and college pathways for adult learners. With the recent economic downturn and the need for adults to learn new skills, adult educational opportunities are booming.
This summer won’t be any exception as the Division continues to provide both long-term and short-term offerings for adults looking to renew or refresh their careers.
The Nancy J. Knight School of Nursing has expanded into Kenton at the new Ohio Hi-Point Career Center North Campus at the Eastcrest Elementary School site, 409 Madison Avenue. The site will host the first nursing class beginning in July. Read More>>> |
| Top Hi-Point students honor educators |
Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s top academic student scholars gave back to educators who have made a meaningful impact on their careers as students. The senior students were recognized for their academic achievements during Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s Third Annual Honored Educators Recognition Banquet, which then included a presentation to honor an educator, selected by the students, who has made a significant difference in their lives.
The event was perfectly timed during National Teacher Appreciation Week, sponsored by the National Parent-Teacher Association, to recognize the contributions of educators in helping students succeed academically and in life. Read More>>> |
